Matches from the overseas NHL can be found on the Nova Sport 1, Nova Sport 2 and Nova Action channels.
As mentioned at the beginning, you can watch 2023/2024 NHL matches on the Nova TV channels – specifically on Nova Sport 1 and Nova Sport 2, and also on Nova Action. But how does the broadcasting actually work? When can you expect to watch the matches on TV?
Nova Sport 1 broadcasts NHL games every game day, while Nova Sport 2 covers NHL matches less frequently. Due to the significant time difference between North America and Europe and the resulting game times, it’s common for two matches to be aired back-to-back. Another typical pattern is that most games are aired on weekends. In numbers, you can look forward to 15 NHL games per week on Nova Sport. Both channels also offer replays of night games, available in the morning and afternoon hours.
For those who don’t want to subscribe to sports packages, there is one live broadcast per week available on the free-to-air channel Nova Action. A selected NHL game is regularly aired during the night from Friday to Saturday (CET).
Nova Sport 1, Nova Sport 2 | broadcasts 15 live games weekly |
Nova Action | broadcasts 1 live game weekly |
Who offers Nova Sport and Nova Action channels | freeSat, Kuki TV, Lepší TV, MAGENTA TV, NejPřipojení TV, Nordic TV, O2 TV, Skylink Live TV, Sledování TV, Telly TV, Vodafone TV, VOYO |
Good news – selected live NHL games are also available from bookmakers such as Chance, Fortuna and Tipsport. The only requirement to watch these broadcasts via bookmakers is to have an account with the respective bookmaker. All three mentioned bookies have a special section dedicated exclusively to sports broadcasts – namely Chance TV, Fortuna TV and Tipsport TV.
Another, though far from ideal, way to watch the overseas NHL is via various online streams. You can choose from paid options, which are logically higher quality, or from free ones.
For paid streams, the cost per game can often be quite high, and compared to subscribing to a full sports package that includes Nova Sport 1, Nova Sport 2 and Nova Action through one of the providers, it’s financially disadvantageous. Free streams tend to be more punishment than pleasure – poor image quality, endless pop-up windows, frequent interruptions, and the need to constantly refresh the website are just some of the drawbacks.
