The legendary street battles of the Street Fighter 6 series bring new mechanics and skins
Seven years after the release of Street Fighter V, Capcom returns with a new entry in its iconic fighting series. Street Fighter 6 from 2023 offers fast and stable online matches thanks to crossplay support and rollback netcode functionality, while new gameplay mechanics breathe new life into the series. The game was very well received by critics and by September 2024, over 4 million copies had been sold.
Street Fighter 6 is divided into three main modes: Fighting Ground, World Tour, and Battle Hub. Fighting Ground is the traditional part of the game, including local and online matches, training, and arcade mode. World Tour is a story-driven single-player mode where players control their own character and explore open 3D environments inspired by the world of Final Fight. Battle Hub serves as a social online lobby where you can fight other players, use avatars from the World Tour mode, and even play classic Capcom arcade titles. The core element of the combat system is the Drive Gauge, which allows players to use five different techniques inspired by older series mechanics (Parry, Focus Attack, or EX Moves). Players must decide strategically how to use their Drive Gauge, as depletion leads to a Burnout state, weakening defense and increasing the chance of being stunned. Naturally, special moves and attacks are also included, with cinematic animations triggered during their execution. Street Fighter 6 also introduces three different control schemes: classic (the six-button layout known from previous titles), modern (simplified control with special moves assigned to a single button), and dynamic (intended for offline play, where the game selects the best possible attack based on the situation). This flexibility makes the game accessible even for players who don’t want to learn complex button combinations. A notable new feature is the real-time commentary, which adds a tournament-like atmosphere to the fights. Players can choose from a total of eight commentators. Speaking of audio aspects in this beloved franchise’s newest entry – the game includes sound cues for visually impaired players. On top of that, it features excellent sound design and music. Online play has also seen improvements thanks to better player matchmaking and more stable duels. The rollback netcode feature guarantees nearly lag-free matches.

Street Fighter 6 continues the story from the end of the fifth installment and offers 18 playable characters in the base version, with more fighters available through the Season Pass feature. This paid pass allows you to unlock additional characters, obtain skins, and other rewards by completing tasks. The roster includes many familiar faces, but also introduces some new ones.
The game is available for PlayStation 4 (PS4 games), PlayStation 5 (PS5 games), Xbox Series X/S, and Windows. It can be purchased digitally in official online stores (PlayStation Store, Microsoft Store, and Steam). The base edition costs around €60, but special editions (Deluxe Edition, Ultimate Edition, Collector’s Edition) were also available at launch, offering access to the Season Pass along with exclusive skins and physical items.
Street Fighter 6 not only maintained the series’ quality but took it to the next level. With new mechanics, a great online experience, and plenty of content, it stands as one of the best entries in the franchise’s history and one of the most prominent fighting games in recent years (despite a somewhat weaker story in World Tour mode and the grind-heavy progression).
