The game Zoopaloola is one of the iconic games from the legendary ICQ program
ICQ was once one of the most popular chat platforms, and besides classic chatting, it also offered the possibility to play simple but entertaining games directly with friends. Although this communication app is no longer active today, the nostalgia for the beloved games still remains. Let’s take a look at the most famous titles that were popular on ICQ.
ICQ, one of the pioneers of online communication, was launched in 1996 by the Israeli company Mirabilis. During its existence, it offered not only chat services but also a range of simple games that users could play directly within the app, even against other users. Thanks to this, ICQ became a popular tool for both communication and leisure. However, in June 2024, after 28 years of operation, ICQ ceased its services due to a declining number of users and outdated technology.
One of the most popular games on ICQ was undoubtedly billiards. Organizing tournaments was a daily occurrence, and despite the game’s simplicity, duels were quite thrilling. Today, billiards (pool) is available online in various forms on almost every website offering browser games.
This strategic war hit, somewhat reminiscent of Worms, was also one of the favorite ICQ pastimes. War sheep offered simple strategic gameplay and action-packed battles on a small field. Today, this game is available for Android mobile phones – it can be found for free on the Google Play app.
The classic game of rock-paper-scissors got an online version on ICQ, where you could challenge a friend to a duel and find out who had better tactics (or more luck). However, it wasn’t just about mindlessly picking one of three symbols. The game took place on a chessboard, and your pieces could only move like pawns. Each one was assigned one of the three symbols (rock, paper, or scissors), determining whether they would eliminate the opponent’s piece or be eliminated themselves. RPS later made its way to mobile form, but that version was full of ads and is no longer available.

This puzzle game was a kind of slot machines (slots) alternative. Players had to move pieces to form combinations of matching symbols. Thanks to its addictive gameplay and competitive spirit, Slide-a-Lama gained a lot of fans. The game is now available on the official slidealama.eu website.
This game was similar to classic billiards, but its mechanics were unique and entertained countless ICQ users. The goal was to strategically knock the opponent’s pieces off the board by shooting your own stones, requiring not only accuracy but also tactical thinking. Zoopaloola is now available at zoopaloola.eu.
Although the era of ICQ games is long over, the memories still remain. For many users, these simple games were not only fun but also a way to strengthen online friendships. Do you also have a favorite ICQ game you like to remember?
