The full name, League of Legends: Wild Rift, is a successful transfer of the popular MOBA game to mobile phones. Is it as good as its PC predecessor?
There are many games that have tried to replicate and copy the computer game League of Legends on mobile devices, but the only true LoL on mobile is Wild Rift. This game title was developed and published directly by Riot Games, tasked with bringing their jewel to the mobile gaming world. And they succeeded.
League of Legends: Wild Rift (abbreviated as WR or just Wild Rift) is a mobile MOBA game released for iOS and Android operating systems. It is a modified version of the computer game League of Legends, and like its predecessor, it is free to play (download and play for free), but it contains microtransactions (purchase of skins or champions). Mobile game titles like Honor of Kings or Mobile Legends are based on the same premise, but the developer studio Riot Games is engaged in legal disputes with the publishers of these games over copyright. When Riot finally recognized the potential of the mobile gaming market, they released the only real LoL for mobile devices – Wild Rift.
Multiplayer online battle arena (abbreviated as MOBA) games are mostly played in two teams of five players each, and Wild Rift is no exception. The matches themselves last a few tens of minutes. The goal is to destroy the enemy base heart – the so-called Nexus. However, in addition to opponents, towers that need to be destroyed before reaching the Nexus also hinder you. Long battles are won not only by individual skills but also by strategic thinking and making important decisions.
The cornerstone of every MOBA game is the champions controlled by the players. The game characters are directly based on the characters found in the computer game League of Legends and work on the same principle: during the game, they gain experience and gold, making them stronger. Each of them has specific attributes and is designed to play a specific position (top, mid, jungle, bottom, support).
Source: wildrift.leagueoflegends.comProfessional leagues, culminating in the major tournament The Wild Circuit: Rift Legends, are organized directly by the game’s publisher, Riot Games. After several years of paying attention to mobile esports in Wild Rift worldwide, they decided to focus primarily on Asia, where the mobile gaming market is the largest. At the same time, they allowed third parties to organize leagues in other parts of the world – therefore, today, you can encounter matches not organized by Riot but having an official label (although the competitive scene in Wild Rift is not very popular in the Western world). We did not find any active league in our country, but for example, the Czech team eSuba still has active members in this division. Today, the best world teams include Chinese KeepBest Gaming and Filipino G2 Blacklist. Bookmakers sometimes dedicate a small space to mobile games (including Wild Rift) and cover some of the bigger tournaments, but this is more the exception than the rule.
